Journo’s 140-word Friday thoughts
Unwanted hat trick
Liverpool have lost three matches in a row at home … admittedly, against top opponents in the shape of Arsenal, Manchester United and Udinese. But the natives are getting restless. The long-term view at Anfield is being sorely tested.
Roy goes Underground
Genial Roy Hodgson chats amicably to a punter on the Tube… the next thing he knows, his views on Rio F are splattered all over social media and elsewhere. Shame on you, Mr Punter. Hope you enjoyed your 15mins of fame. Poor Roy must be wondering why he took on the “Impossible Job”.
Andre up for Europa action
Good to see AVB is treating the Europa Lge seriously, despite a strong Tottenham side disappointingly drawing 1-1 away to Panathinaikos last night. It really is not that bad a comp, also featuring Lazio, Lyon, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, PSV and Napoli. Fair play, Andre.

Obviously a journo that doesnt go to Anfield. You would hope a football journo could see the bigger picture and that good things are happening… But that wouldnt make as interesting a comment.
I do go to Anfield, when I get sent there. Sadly, most football journos don’t get a choice. But “good things happening”? The stats just don’t stack up … six wins out of 14 this season … against Gomel [Who?], Gomel again, Hearts, Young Boys, WBA and Norwich. And just one win in seven at home, none in the last six. And with Rodgers openly criticising some of his players – a managerial no-no – all cannot be right.
I hope Roy’s genial temperament insulates him against the repulsive English media who seem to have it in for him. I must be missing something but what has he got to apologise for exactly? Has everyone gone soft in the head? He’s a gentleman from a bygone age before idiocy became the norm!
I can see Roy in an Ealing crime caper from the 50s
Natives restless? Oh yes, that explains why Brendan Rogers name was being sung by the Kop last night!
Ditto my above reply to Paul. Love is blind, indeed …
Prob with Europa cup is not the teams in it, but the format based on maximising financial returns. Bring back home and away knock out games to revitalise it.
