Lifting the lid on the world of football

But would you still buy a used car from this man?

I’m afraid Harry is one of those ‘Del Boy’ wide boys much in the vein of Terry Venables or George Graham and some of the mud will stick regardless of the verdict. This need not be to his detriment, In fact, the public quite likes the idea of the ‘rough diamond’ getting one over the tax man. That the rough diamond is a multi-millionare and the sums involves were, by percentage of his overall earnings, paltry is an indictment of way in which we see the modern working class hero.

The CPS and police have come out, once again, as poorly prepared and the case retrospectively smacks of a witch-hunt that has served both football and the general public very poorly and at great cost.

Harry’s status has been raised and very little stands between him and the England job-a hereto poisoned chalice where the cynical may think his downfall might ultimately lie.

    Hero back to Zero ?

Has Harry lost concentration on the Spurs job with all this Talk of Harry for England.?

Or is it the players who have stopped listening to him saying how wonderful they are and lost confidence in his instructions. After all he’s not going to be here?

Looks like all this England talk has turned his head

just remember Harry “all that glitters isn’t gold”…….do you have to pay tax on gold?

  3. The Secret Footballer

As a player said to me after we heard the verdict: TWo hours ago he was going down the road for a year, two hours later hes the England manager, if I was Harry Redknapp Id play the Euro millions this weekend, theres no tax on a lottery win.

I would like to think that Harry will give Tottenham another season, what has he got to lose by waiting? it’s doubtful the current line up will be setting anything alight this year. A caretaker committee can run the job for the foreseeable future and take the blame or accolades as appropriate.

We all appreciate the lure of celebrity but notwithstanding that why would Harry turn the job down eventually? Every good Englishman should want to manage the national team and you can bet he will insist he does it his way without interference from the FA. He must have imagined himself taking the team to glory. It’s the biggest job in football and he’ll take it if only because the alternative would be spending his eventual retirement with the thought of ‘What if”!!!

There just isn’t a viable alternative to Harry. Pardew? Plse, once the Newc revival turns turtle, he’ll be exposed as little more than a Plan A merchant with few back-up ideas. Hodgson? Too old. His time has gone. Pearce? Clenched-fist gung-ho up-and-at-’em attitude won’t work with multimillionaire poseurs. Curbishley? Don’t even go there. O’Neill? Wd be very good but doesn’t need the grief after inspirational start at Sunderland. Mourinho? A poseur running the poseurs? No chance. FA wd be scared of him, anyway. Wenger? Might need a job soon.

It’s got to be a Little Englander. Johnny Foreigner has had his chance …

    Step forward, Sir Harold …

Harry’s friends and family should saving him from this dilemma; the choice is simple it’s glory glory with Spurs along with public acclaim versus dismal failure with England and ridicule all across the media. Don’t say it wouldn’t happen with Harry – he would be powerless to do anything about it.

Not sure if his decision will be based on whether he has a brain, but more on his heart. All logic suggests you’re right TSG, but this is a decision based on heart, patriotism and someone who played with Moore, Peters and Hurst. For me his heart will say yes, then he needs to ensure he gets a good No.2 (not Pierce or Southgate or Jordan or Bond), but someone who will provide the tactical nous and experience of winning and Europe. Mike Phelan with Harry would be my choice.

    • The Secret Journalist

Phelan as Arry’s No.2 is prob a wise choice … but not workable. Sir Harry wd only work with his trusted lieutenants, like Jordan or Bond. And let’s face it, Capello did the same. Whoever Arry wants to work with him, he will get. The FA will already realise that they have few options in their search for a successor to the Italian. It will have to bow to the new man’s every wish.

If Henry James ‘ Harry” Redknapp had half-a brain and I think he has then he would stay well away from the England managerial position.

If he thought that the five-year investigation and trial of his alleged non-payment of tax was bad enough, then how would he react with his picture, his family, his dog and his every move being followed like a criminal under the spotlight whilst fronting the national team?

Harry Redknapp is a fortunate man. He is the manager of 3rd placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Premiership. He is adored by the fans of this particular North London club, and  he has a decent working relationship with Daniel Levy the chairman.

So why would someone throw a lifetime of work away spent on managing lower table sides like Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton and Portsmouth,  and more recently one who guided a sleeping giant into the Champions League leave ….to lead an England side riddled with self-doubt and steered by a gutless and directionless FA.

Stay where you are Harry you aint getting any younger.

Better the devil you know., better the devil you know.

Amazing how a person can go from Zero to Hero in less than half a day.
